chairchain

As part of the Chairs themed work that I’ve been sharing over the last few posts, I spent quite a lot of time creating a series of four related photos telling a story using  two chairs. The work was in response to a particularly cruel and tragic news story that was then in the UK media. This is how I described it in a small piece of writing which was included in a handmade book that I put together using the photographs: ”chairchain is a story told in four photographs by Norfolk based artist photographer Keith Osborn with accompanying text formed by fragments from the standard dictionary definition of the word ‘chair’”. I had a loose image of the ‘square’ chair being male, and the ‘boudoir’ chair being female and the story being about strong male-vulnerable female relationships which can sometimes end very tragically. Other than saying that, I will leave you to read the story as you wish…. The use of dictionary definitions of the word ‘chair’ as the titles of the images seemed to me to work very well and deepen the impact of the images. Here is the series:

1. seat of authority

2. usu. having a back and four legs

3. a separate seat for one person

4. master of ceremonies
